1. WHAT IS ABUNDANCE? —
Dear Friends,
In the spirit of the “Season,” I want to wish you all a beautifully happy, safe, and abundant holiday.
 |
It has been given to me recently that:
Gratitude is the highest form of Abundance.
Pretty simple idea, really, and it doesn't cost anything!
When I truly feel grateful, it’s undeniable that I am in a very intense state of Abundance. Abundance of love, family, warmth, food, clothing, shelter, vehicles, relatives, good health, clean air, safety, work opportunities, talents, sobriety, water, clarity, prayer, humility, freedom, and music, among many other feelings and blessings I have the opportunity to experience.
I suppose to say it doesn’t cost anything to be grateful is a bit misleading. It costs the time, energy and heart to appreciate what is given each day – this beautiful life we have!
|
Don’t miss the opportunity to be overly grateful. You may find yourself in great abundance!

1. NOW THAT THE LEAVES HAVE TURNED —
Today, I heard a cut from Bob Dylan's new Christmas CD. Yes, imagine that! The most neutral remark I can make about the sound of his voice is that it's not pretty! Today, I'm also thinking a lot about the 55 American soldiers who have lost their lives so far in Afghanistan during this month of October. Again, I'm reminded, war is not pretty. One of my dearest elders has a saying that is both resonant and absolute: "The Truth is not always pretty." Each day we are faced with "not pretty" truths, experiences, words, thoughts and often, our own deeds, which remind us of our human frailty, our lack of clarity, our personal failures, and our disappointment in others. But I digress. Today, a little boy I had never met asked me to be his Auntie. It was a very pretty moment.
 |
The leaves have turned - have you noticed? Those in the latitudes between N 31° and N 46° are experiencing the annual return to a leafless existence - naked of the protection of natural neighborhood screens, the shading of the sun, and the mysterious wonder-filled world of the wingeds, chipmunks and creepy crawlies hiding beneath their branched blankets. In contrast to the flowering colors of Spring and Summer foliage, leafless trees just aren’t pretty!! Yet we sense the comfort in the starkness, and we see farther, outside our own yards, to the great landscape beyond. Is there a metaphor here?
With the turning of the leaves, we find chilly air a healthy respite from our stuffed and stuffy houses and we know that it is time for the Earth's precious medicines to replenish through their natural state of regeneration. Have we found the beauty in death?
|
Duality is the natural state of balance. That’s the truth! All we ever have control of is how we choose to see the world, where we choose to point our focus, and what we choose to do about all those Truths – the ones that are pretty and the ones that aren’t.
Aho! Mitakuye Oyasin – We are all related!

2. NOV 5 – CIRCLE FOR CLEMENCY —
In Washington DC, on Nov. 5, President Obama will meet with indigenous people from across the US for the first Tribal Nations Summit. He will hear the concerns and issues of Indian Country firsthand and commit to creating solutions that are fair and right in the recognition of indigenous people as Sovereign Nations and the role of the US in honoring treaties, land-use and mineral rights, protection of sacred sites and correcting health and housing issues.
Concurrent with this Summit, a CIRCLE FOR CLEMENCY for incarcerated Lakota/Anishanabe activist, Leonard Peltier, will be held with elders and people from across Turtle Island. Prayer ceremonies, music and speakers will be part of the day-long events. If you would like to attend, send a response to this newsletter. Ride shares and housing are being networked on Facebook: Circle for Clemency.
|
3. GIVING THANKS CONCERT IN MORRISTOWN —
On Saturday, Nov 28, Jackie will appear in Morristown at the Center for Spiritual Living Morristown to extend the spirit of compassion and gratitude at this second annual Thanksgiving concert. Through songs, spoken word pieces and the music of the Native Flute, the strength of connection to our Mother Earth and Indigenous spiritual awareness will be felt and heard. Plan to come spend this time with us at this very beautiful space in Morristown – within an hour from the Lehigh Valley, NYC and Princeton.
|
4. NAMMY NOMINATION HOLDS! —
Jackie was honored to be part of the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards and her nomination for Best Female Artist caused her to connect with many wonderful people including Gabriel Ayala, Michael Bucher, Joanne Shenandoah, and JJ Kent, Felicia, and Jan Michael Looking Wolf.

1. FULL NUT MOON (CHEROKEE) —
The blessing of this September Full Moon is that the harvesting of seeds sown is in full swing. There is acknowledgement and celebration that the winter will be plentiful with sustenance. The fruit of last season’s plantings – musically – are ripening, as well.
I received word on the Full Moon that I am nominated as Best Female Artist by the Native American Music Awards. Details are below on how to vote. Congratulations to all the nominees representing music of many genres across Indian Country.
Traveling, visiting and performing on the island of Kauai last month was nothing short of spectacular and I want to thank mime/movement artist, Janet Carafa, the Dilly Dally House Bed & Breakfast and my T-J-M Clan for making it such a special time for all of us!
My great thanks, as well, to all of you for your continued support as I walk this creative, blessed path of a musical life. I hope to continue writing and performing songs that are not only relevant but will inspire and move us towards more compassion, humility, gratitude and forgiveness as a People.

4. SPECIAL WEEKEND AT THE WATERFALL INN —
Jackie will be attending a very special weekend with Hopi Grandmother Mona Polacca of the Council of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers at The Waterfall Inn in the Catskills. Go to The Waterfall Inn dot com.
Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in this very special, intimate gathering with Gramma Mona, Jackie and other very special guests. Contact thewaterfallinn@gmail.com for more info.
|
5. GRANDMOTHERS DVD AVAILABLE NOW —
The Laughing Willow Company happily announces the DVD release of "For The Next Seven Generations," the feature documentary about the vision and presence of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. Music composer and supervisor, Peter Buffet, has included music from Jackie's CD, MorningSky Drum Song. In addition, Bethany Yarrow and Rufus Cappadocia contribute to the sonic landscape of the film. Ashley Judd narrates, along with the message of the Grandmothers, which is timeless and relevant. This is a film you'll want to watch over and over again. Purchase the DVD at For the Next 7 Generations dot com.
Jackie is deeply grateful to Director Carole Hart for the opportunity to be part of such a deep spiritual experience and pivotal message to the world. And many thanks to Peter Buffet for the musical prowess and vision to anchor this imperative message with universal sounds.

1. TO THE ISLANDS —
Aloha! The changing winds have once again beckoned my attention and as I thought my western journey this summer was only going so far as North Dakota, I was aiming a bit short! I will be flying to the Island of Kauai at the end of July for a reunion with some very dear "relatives" and, in addition, have been fortunate enough to secure a performance as part of the trip!
My friend Janet Carafa, a mime and movement artist, is teaming up again with me for a special perfomance called "Seven Winds of Peace." Over the last four years, I have been given specific instructions for my life that have included integrating Joy, Respect, Compassion, Humility, Gratitude, Forgiveness and Faith. So, through the beauty of Music and Movement, Theatre and Sound, Janet and I will convey these seven winds of peace as best we can in deep, humorous and artful ways! For those on the island, we look forward to seeing you in Kapa'a!
Remember to go outside everyday and walk on the Earth and look around at the beauty – the birds, the trees, the flowers blooming. Put your mind at ease by remembering the cycles of Nature, which are endless and renewing constantly. We are part of that Nature – and are also renewing.
Don’t lose faith in that which is timeless-your heart, soul and nature.

1. SOMETHING'S HAPPENING HERE —
The next line of that classic Steven Stills song is “What it is ain’t exactly clear.”
That is a fitting description for most everywhere you look these days. The economy has been jolted and people have lost their savings, their homes, jobs, and our Mother Earth has come to the forefront with the planetary changes related to carbon emissions. Our sense of Stability has become entirely based on how well we are dealing with these changes on the inside, because the only word for the world “outside” of us is unstable.
So I wonder how everyone is doing on this mailing list. And I want to extend to you my sincerest prayers that you’re taking care of yourselves emotionally and spiritually and physically as well as you can. It is an uncertain time in our collective lives, but you have friends and loved ones to call and ask for help, if you need it. Allow yourself to be led to what will help you feel stable on the inside.

1. NEW YEAR - NEW WAY —
First, I say, Happy New Year to all of you. We have a very important mission to stay committed as we move into this time of our collective lives. We have a new government that will be changing the paradigm of governing, as we will see soon enough.
This is a time of Strong Medicine, so strengthen yourselves within through your spiritual practices, take care of your bodies with nutritious foods and water, and honor your creation energy by writing, singing and dancing when you are moved to! Most importantly, give thanks for this good life, because everything has potential to assist us, even when we don’t fully understand each experience. Gratitude will lead you to a path of Peace and Purpose.
Our All Nations Peace Concert was full of surprises this year. Jean Paul Samputu, got snowed-in while he was staying in Boston and unfortunately, had to withdraw from the concert. Charles and Delores Fambrough graciously stepped in to represent the West. Please click here for a full report. I’d like to thank all our performers and the audience who braved frigid temperatures and wind to bring in 2009 in a new way, a way acknowledging we are all related.

2. GREAT LAKES MORNINGSKY TOUR —
Jackie will be performing 5 dates in the Great Lake states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota during March. See the calendar below and come out to her first tour since recording her Native Flute-based CD, MorningSky Drum Song, which also includes three new songs painted with images of Life, Spirit, and the Earth.
Gina Boltz, Director of Native Village, recently heard Jackie in a radio interview highlighing the song, Red Horse, and said, "Lovely lovely voice. When a listener hears the spirit, one knows the voice is true." Thanks to Gina, for that lovely quote!
Go to JackieTice.com to get your copy! Or buy direct from CD BABY.COM! |
3. SPECIAL EVENT! —
An important forum which includes all the non-governmental organizations (NGO) of the United Nations will be held on February 5, 2009. The DPI NGO Briefing on Sustainable Peace through of Reconciliation recognizes 2009 as the Year of Reconciliation, an opportunity to heal the wounds of injustice around the world through right action and forgiveness.
Jackie will perform on Native Flute and, along with Dar Khabbaz, will sing a prayer song to represent newness and regeneration necessary to initiate healing. |
4. JACKIE GOES TO WASHINGTON! —
Jackie and her daughter attended the Pennsylvania Democrats Inaugural Ball on January 19 in Washington. On the 20th, they joined nearly two Million people, wrapped in wool layers, to witness the Presidential Inauguration and Inaugural parade on Pennsylvania Ave. The experience of waiting together for over seven hours with a multi-cultural blanket of PEOPLE, brought together, suffering the cold together, for one common purpose, for one common AHO!, was exhilarating and affirming. Forward we look now, with gratitude and knowledge that all things are possible.
