December 2004 TICE NOTES - -
Winter stands at our doorstep, patiently waiting her turn to dance
Snowflakes camp on strata clouds, shapeless yet
Time slows soon, but not too soon for me
Comes a winter’s lullaby on frozen winter’s trees
My great thanks to Brian Austin Whitney of JPFOLKS for a superb job at the Santa Ana music awards show. Independent music is alive and well, friends. CDBaby.com is the place to find a
plethora of “the good stuff.”
Some recently discovered artists I like:
Mark Thunderwolf (Native flute)
The Dreamsickles are Tom Prasada-Rao and Carrie Cooper (contemporary and roots)
Melody Guy (Americana, country)
GUTA (intelligent, original, crossover rock & roll)
Wolfe (high-powered blues and rock)
Check them out at CDBaby.com
Thanks also to Andrea Clearfield, pianist, composer and producer of The Salon event in Philadelphia for a terrific evening of exceptional talent. If you live anywhere within driving distance of Philly,
please treat yourself to an evening of musical bliss! Contact the website at http://internationalopus.com/Andrea_Clearfield
The new album and songs coming this Spring in four directions.
Until then, blessings on your winter time.

October 2004 TICE NOTES - -
Friends....
We're getting closer to release dates for the new record. I'm happy to report that the pre-release copy is being
played on WXPN - 88.5 FM, Philadelphia. Call Michaela Majoun - diva of radio that's hip - if you want to hear
it. 215-573-WXPN
NEWS and GIGS BELOW
The Salon, Philadelphia
Postponed from March, I will appear on Sunday October 24, at THE SALON, an event featuring superb musicianship,
in the style of the 19th-century European salons. About ten performers tout the best of their latest musical
endeavors spanning jazz, classical, and acoustical styles. There will also be a dance piece presented at this
Salon.
I will be joined by William (Billy) Hall at this performance. 400 South Sydenham Street, 7:30 pm. Doors open at
7:00 pm, and you are advised to come early to get a seat. . Suggested donation $8 http://internationalopus.com/Andrea_Clearfield
for more info.
The California trip, Los Angeles
From November 4-8, I will be in the Los Angeles-metro area, making my way into the offices of music supervisors,
visiting TV studios and playing my songs. I have two performances scheduled. If you're from CA, email this
address for further information.
An Award?
My all-acoustic, locally-released CD, In These Bones (2002, Saja Records), has been nominated as best
traditional folk album by the JPF MUSIC AWARDS. This grassroots organization has over 25,000 member
musicians/songwriters, including Jason Blume, the Dixie Chicks, and other famous folks, whose main purpose it is
to close the gap between the mainstream "popular" perception of elitist musical talent and the actuality of many
thousands of talented independent artists, putting out CD's and making credible contributions to the industry.
This organization has a bigger pool than the Grammy's, thereby representing a truer picture of the music
industry. My record is recognized in the same category as the Doc Watson/David Holt collection, Legacy, which
puts me in very good company and very stiff competition.
VOTE - PLEASE!

Mid May 2004 TICE NOTES - -
My Friends -
The mastered copy of 'Human' is on it's way to me from MInneapolis as I write
this.
Mike von Muchow and Tom Tucker spent many hours tweaking the record to get it
just right! Then, they listened to some of Prince's new CD, due to be released
soon! I'm not usually one to be so bold - name dropping like that - but it's so
funny to me, as well as kind of cool!
I'm taking two trips this summer to North Dakota to, again, be with 'my people,'
the Mandan/Hidatsa. I wouldn't be doing the work I do without going back there.
They are indelible in their effect upon my psyche, my soul and my art - both
visual and musical. One of my recent paintings, Thunder Moon, specifically
focuses on Thunder Butte in ND and it's sister-song of the same name made the
record, with Bill Miller adding beautiful native flute to the piece.
I am preparing 100 limited-edition pre-release copies of Human for sale at the
upcoming gigs. These will be signed and numbered and will include exclusive
studio photos from the week we recorded the album. The official release of
Human is not determined yet but, as I said, these pre-release copies will be
available at gigs until they run out! E-me if you're out of the state or country
and we can possibly get one to you.
For WDIY-FM (88.1) listeners, I'll be on The Blend with Ray Sommerville at
2:45pm on Wednesday, May 19.
Thank you
all peace...

Mid-April 2004 TICE NOTES - -
Friends -
The new album, officially called Human, is finished and ready for mastering.
Bill Miller, Michael von Muchow and I spent most of the first week in April
mixing the record.
A Cooper Hawk came and visited during a break, perching on a tree 20 feet from
the porch at Signal Sound Studios, where we mixed and recorded the album. My
great thanks to Pete Davis (owner/engineer) and to Rick Statkus (engineer), who
were vital to the completion of this project.
I am eternally grateful to Billy Hall, who also spent many hours post-production,
recording, editing and gathering all the source material necessary for getting
the record ready to mix.
Great thanks to Michael von Muchow, from La Crosse, WI, who flew in to be part of
this. His honest approach to the music is enlivening. I recommend him highly to
others in the music biz. He is also handling the mastering end of the process, along
with Tom Tucker, who mixes Prince's records, in Minneapolis.
This record would not exist without Bill Miller. It's the best record I've ever
made - hands down! His commitment to his vision and ability to hold the space of
intention and positive energy is miraculous. In the face of his own rising career,
it was truly an act of love that he guided this beautiful journey and the resulting
music to its completion.
Another important part of this project and one of it's magical moments came with
the publication of Geoff Gehman's two-page spread in the Morning Call, Allentown PA..
Geoff spent hours interviewing and visiting with me, Bill Miller, Jamey Haddad and
others to write this beautiful piece documenting the magic and the making of this
album. The article is posted here at jackietice.com.
I had no intention of recording an album at this time. I was looking for a house to
buy when all this came to my attention. Some things are painfully obvious as the
right thing to do.
Everyone who came to this project said the same thing. They did it because they felt
like it was the right thing to do. It called to them. There is no accounting for that
feeling between people. It's just a gift!
So, as we complete another step along the way toward the "whatever," I'm grateful
and look forward to holding the finished product in my hands, and also to sharing it
with all of you.
Hang in there ----------it's coming........
all peace....

Late March 2004 TICE NOTES - -
My Friends -
I have just emerged from a one-week recording marathon with BILL MILLER.
Six weeks after handing him a demo, the wind swept us into the studio, where
we created high art with JAMEY HADDAD (Paul Simon, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Liebman),
PETE CUMMINGS (Oak Ridge Boys, Tanya Tucker, Elvis Presley!),
JOSHUA YUDKIN (Bill Miller's oft-seen accompanist),
TONY DOMINIC (UNAMI),
BILLY HALL (Frostwater, Peter Yarrow, Pete Seeger) and
GARY RISSMILLER (Phil Woods, Charles Fambrough).
You won't hear the results on CD for another month or two, however, a few
gigs coming up will give us opportunity to showcase some songs.
The full moon has birthed another baby....

February 2004 TICE NOTES - -
Greetings Friends...
My driveway is packed with snow and ice. I'm doing my best to look
towards Spring and Summer - writing new songs and painting, resting
up for the big thaw just around the corner. Right!
Coming in March is a very hip Jim Thorpe event. The Cerridwyn (Ker-i-dwin) Music and Arts Festival will feature women artists
and musicians at the famed Mauch Chunk Opera House.
The festival will begin in the gallery space at the Opera House with an
exclusive Art Exhibit from 2pm – 5pm. The Opera House doors will re-open at
7pm for an exhibition of artwork, musical performances mixed with poetry
readings and featured performances by the ACCO chorus and myself.
Lite Fare and refreshments are included in a $10.00 ticket price.
Part of the excitement for me is that I will hang two paintings for the Art
Exhibit.
The gallery page on the website is still in the design stage, so this is
an opportunity to get a preview of some of my visual work and to hear
the songs inspired by them.
An exciting opportunity this month is at the Salon in Philadelphia.
Modeled after the 19th Century European Salons, each month an evening of classical,
folk and world music, dance and poetry is featured at this townhome of
pianist Andrea Clearfield (http://www.internationalopus.com/Clearfield).
Allentown musician Steve Brosky has finished recording a bluesy, funky
cover of my song, Trouble, from my Let In The Joy album. Recorded
at Westwires Studio (www.westwires.com), the backing vocals are
provided by Billy Hall, my daughter Sagi, Paco the drummer! and myself.
Other news is on the burner for next time. Please drop me a note and
thank you for your support!
all peace...

NOVEMBER 2003 TICE NOTES - -
Friends -
Thank you - all who've attended shows and bought CD's through October. I so appreciate your continued support
and generosity of spirit.
The next two weekends will be fun and filled with music. First, Godfrey Daniels is sponsoring their annual Craft
Faire Extraordinaire on Saturday, November 22 from 9-4pm, with live music playing from 11-3. I will be appearing
with my special guest, Bill Hall. You'll remember him from the Blue Coyote record and from our extraordinary
journey to Kerrville Folk Festival in 1996, when we, as two individual songwriters, entered the field of 800
entrants for the Emerging Artists competition there. As fate would have it, we BOTH came home as two of the six
winners of the New Folk Award that year. Pretty cool! At this gig, we'll debut the song we just wrote together -
not to be missed!
The following weekend - November 29 and 30 - you'll have another chance to attend a Native American Pow Wow.
This one, again at Dimmick Park in Hellertown, will be held in a huge, heated tent, with enough room for a dance
circle, vendors of Native crafts, leathergoods, jewelry and clothing, and two Indiginous drumming groups. I will
play, as well, in the late afternoon hours. This is a non-profit event to raise money for the People of the
Tayac Sun Dance - held on Piscataway Nation grounds in southern Maryland. My friends, Eagle Claw Victoria and
Sherry Running Bear, are organizing the event. I am happy to be part of it.
Check the website at http://jackietice.com for updated info and to check future performance dates.
My CD, Let In The Joy, is now available at http://cdbaby.com/tice2 .
