Borders

I like crossing borders
On open highways
Moving to the speed of time
My mind all ablaze

I like when you look at me
With those deep gypsy blues
I like thinking
Of crossing borders with you

From fencerows to milestones
The markers are clean
Birthdays and comfort zones
There’s no in-between

Borders invite me
To take up a rest
And these borders exclude me
From the one I love best

The edge of the cliff
The lines on a page
Measures of what I risk
In what I will say

I like when you look at me
With those deep gypsy blues
I like thinking
Of crossing borders with you

Girl in the white dress
Indian boy on the hill
One setting boundaries of mortal bliss
The other finding the spirit of free will

Borders define
And cage what we do
Borders surprise
When we try walking through

I like when you look at me
With those deep gypsy blues
I like thinking
Of crossing borders with you
